I liked today's class because it gave me an opportunity to refresh and clear my mind by thinking about other topics rather than mine. It was interesting to see that each topic is radically different, and how we can help each other in order to strengthen our topic. Personally, we gained a solution (depending on what a company gains the salary of the workers) and a good pointer (looking to what will happen in the future if the middle class disappears). I'm glad we had this opportunity to further discuss what my team and I already addressed in our own discussion.
Javier- During the class discussion, we presented our research question, which was: what factors are causing the middle class in the US to disappear, and the lenses that we are going to cover to all of our classmates as well as the member of the other class. From a previous team that passed before us, we found that with the historical lens, we could also include the futuristic lens to see what can happen in the future with the topic. We also realized that we needed to look for a solution that would be able to solve the fact that the middle class is disappearing and the actions could be taken to prevent this.
In this class discussion, I learned that our research question might be a little broad. Our classmates gave us ideas to make a better research and how we can maybe compare the US and another country's pharmaceutical industry in order to determine why it is so expensive. I'm going to have to concise my IRR because my lens has a lot of information that can benefit the investigation. I will try to use only the information that also benefits my team member's lenses and investigation. I am looking forward to knowing more information about my topic.
During todays discussion I had the opportunity to evaluate my research question as well as the lenses we will include: economical, historical and social. It was mentioned that are research question was perhaps to broad. We didn't identify which specific churches we will be talking about or what type of taxes, property tax? regressive tax? For that reason, we will do further research and modify our question as we learn new things. In my lens I will include how this taxes will benefit the USA and how they stop being tax exempt the new tax revenue could be used.
During class discussion, the ideas that my friends and classmates gave to me were very valuable. Ms. Martha Laura's suggestions, that our topic is too broad, seemed to be the general consensus. Therefore, I believe my team is going to narrow down our question into making it a simple comparison between countries' healthcare. Also, it intrigued me to see that so many people be confused over our question. It signals to me that firstly we should clear up confusing terms in our question, and secondly we should simplify the question down to terms that are easier to understand and explain.
During this class discussion we presented our topics and research questions as well as our respective lenses. We had a little feedback from our classmates to develop a better research question. In my case we decide to leave everything as it is, because we consider that our research question is specific and concise. We also participated in commenting and suggesting other teams regarding their topics and research questions. I think there were no team's with a "wrong" topic or research plan.
In today's class I was able to do more research about my topic and learn about other teams research questions. I was able to help my classmates in their research questions, giving them feedback that they will actually use in their research. By delegating with my classmates, I was able to realize that not only could I do the history lens, but also the future of the topic. What could happen if the middle class dissolved in the US. I am looking forward on researching about my topic and letting other people give me tips to perfect my work.
Alex A- The class discussion brought positive things to the team. At first, as soon as we mentioned the research question, the audience made gestures that made us realize that we weren't clear enough. Subsequently, each one addressed the research from the lens. It seems that our research didn't constructively connected properly. They were related, however, not well connected. Therefore, it made us think that our line of reasoning in the future wouldn't be the adequate one. The teacher commented that the question was too broad. We decided to narrow the question in terms to make it more simple and focused, because the one we had led us in a dead end for the solution, and despite the fact there is no necessary solution, we want one.
The class discussion was helpful, especially as it opened my eyes regarding what types oftaxes on churches we are going to discuss. Furthermore, it also made me solidify my decision to do this topic about the catholic church specifically, as it has much more history and as a result, more records to do research from. The solution is going to be able to be extrapolated to ther kinds of churches though, so there is really no disadvantage. Being focused just makes our research paper more concise, and as a result, more accurate.
Write a brief summary of each category expectations for IRR (Task #1) rubric. Please write an 8-rows reflection on the IRR (essays) you read (which one was a high, a medium or a low; what do you think about the topics; are they well written?; are the sources reliable and relevant enough?; what about conventions?).
Write a 10-row reflection on your own performance writing the IWA. What did you do well? if you had the opportunity to do it all over again, what would you do different? Identify your major challenges, etc.

ReplyDeleteHey Sara, you answered this before we actually had the class. I just thought that I should let you know.
DeleteWow, weird thing! How did you do the reflection before even having the activity in class?
DeleteDejen de molestar a Sarita
DeleteGracias Ms :) This blog works two hours before, fyi.
