Write a 10-row reflection on your experience while writing your IRR...What could you have done better? If you have the chance, what would you do differently? What are the areas in which you feel stronger? In which ones you feel weak, and why?

  1. I believe finding the right sources was one of the most difficult parts because I needed sources that would help me prove my point. When I had the correct sources, writing the report was pretty easy. Still, I believe that I could've done a better job making connections between the perspectives and a little better analysing of the evidence. I think the evidence I gave in the report really helped understand the issue but I did not do the best job on specifying why I added that information. If I had the chance to do some things differently, I would definitely focus more on my writing in order to provide a better understanding on the perspectives given. I would also read try and imitate what the higher IRR samples given did to achieve that grade. The area where I felt strong was when I used specific evidence to support my idea. As said before, I believe the exact pieces of evidence I gave really helps the reader understand the situation. But still, I did not do a great job analysing them, which was the area where I felt weak. I will read the sample papers given once more to actually understand the ways those students were able to explain, analyse and make connections with their evidences.

  2. For starters, this was the first time I have ever written an IRR, but the skills I have learned from writing other reports definitely helped me with my IRR. When I began writing, as usually I had trouble organizing my ideas and finding sources that would prove my claims as an ethical lens. After I had my outline and ideas straight, the search for sources became easier because I knew what I needed to research. What I think my report is lacking is the lack of high level diction. In addition, if I had the chance to do something differently, I would find ways to add more evidence and less claims in order to make my report more compelling. Still, I feel that my IRR is very strong in the way I used this problem as an advantage. I arranged the information and evidence in a way that supports everything that I am "claiming." In addition, I also think that the information that I have proves that quality is better than quantity. What I think I could've done to strengthen my weaknesses was research even more in order to add more sources than the four that I have now.

  3. My experience in writing an IRR was frustrating at the beginning. When I started I had no idea of what I was looking for or wow would it was the outcome supposed to look like. After working on the introduction many times and doing the first draft I realized that it had the purpose of informing about a topic, and not necessarily arguing with a position. This made my mind clearer of the information I wanted to include. One thing I found difficult were the sources. In EBSCO I found really good sources, there were only one or two. In addition I spend a lot of time finding information in google that was reliable and useful. At the end I looked at my IRR and i think that I did a good job since it was the first time I have done one. Now this will help me as an experience for future writings. I think I could have focused more about the ethics principles and laws and not about society and psychological effects.

  5. As the writing process went by the ability to write became easier. At first, I was unable to organize my ideas clearly, I didn't know what subtopics should I discuss or what counter arguments needed to be addressed. Finding the correct resources was the most crucial part of this process. In order to write a well written and researched IRR all data had to not only be useful as evidence to support my claim, but be accurate and reliable. This step in particular was the hardest, searching for resources which went with my lense was indeed laborious since most of the websites I found addressed the issue in general, there wasn’t many information regarding my lens. As of my opinion, I should had devoted more time to do a more broad and extensive research to obtain better statistics. I feel as if in some occasions I fail to hold on to my lense, I give information regarding other lenses like ethical instead of economical. Yet, as an overall, I think my paper followed all expectations of the rubric, presented a logical line of reasoning, well written, and APA format was followed.

  6. Doing the IRR was a whole new experience for me. I had never researched that much fro a topic in particular. Definitely the standards were set very high. I think that I could have done better my bibliography section of the IRR, because I have very few sources. There is room to add that the resources that I used were completely full of information. If I had to do the IRR again, which I will...I will definitely research even more about the topic by reading a variety of articles to expand even further my knowledge on the topic. Time is also a huge factor since there are few days given to make the IRR. I feel I am very strong on comprehending the issue from a variety of perspectives and lenses. I feel this way, because since the first day I had already reasoned everything that the topic included. I feel weak in my grammar skills since I was corrected in many of them. This assignment was definitely challenging, I am looking forward to the next IRR.

  7. Javier-
This was the first time I had ever written an IRR, and I think that I did an okay job while doing it. I had a lot of grammar mistakes and there were a lot of areas in which I could have improved. Another thing I could have done better is research more about the topic. I feel like I used one of my resources and relied on it more than the others, so next time I want to have more resources so I don't use one over the others throughout the whole report. One thing I would definitely do different is not procrastinate. Even though I didn't do it all the night before, I wasn't really working or progressing a lot in class, so I left it all as homework and did it all the last two days before the deadline. If I hadn't procrastinated I feel like I would have done a better IRR. I feel strong in understanding the topic that I used, my organization and the structure of my report. I feel weak in my grammar, since I did a lot of grammar mistakes, and a little bit in my research since I didn't use sources from Ebscohost that could have helped me.

  8. I think the IRR could have been done better if I had not been under so much stress during the time period I had to create the IRR. I am about to take the SAT this Saturday and I am spending most of the time studying for it. If the workload from that and all other classes would have been a little bit lighter, I would have spent more time looking for more reliable reasources, wrote more carefully and used my time more wisely. Furthermore, because my scope was the historical, it was difficult to choose what to write about, as prostitution is something that has been present for most of the history of mankind, as a result, it is difficult to chose what to write about. With more time, it would have been easier to decide what to write about, because due to the lack of time I had to write about what I found, not neccesairly about the most relevant things to the topic.

  9. The IRR was a very challenging and stressful assignment for me. At first, I though it was going to be a whole lot easier, but as soon as I started researching, my perspective changed. At first, I struggled finding sources that would best fit the lens of research question. I found a variety of statistics that differed from each source, which caused myself to doubt on which one to use. I used my AP Seminar skills to see which one was the most relevant. When I had all my sources, each one with its "Source Summary Sheet", I had conflicts arranging my outline. I didn't know which subtopic to write first in my paper. I believe this is where I did wrong. I wrote the paragraph for each of my subtopics, and at the end I organize them. This is a step I wont take in future situations, however, at the moment it was what was easier for me. I think I could've done better the analysis of the information collected from the sources. At first I just wrote the information, but didn't include a deep analysis that could demonstrate understanding. It was until my peers reviewed my IRR, that I identified I missed the reasoning part. The areas in which I feel strong is in the formatting of the IRR. I entered to OWL to see the APA guidelines and think followed them correctly. On the other hand, I feel weak deciding what information to use among the variety of sources searched, since I don't feel capable enough to understand articles that include a broad vocabulary and deep background information.

  10. While doing the IRR, I noticed that I wished I would have tired harder. I realized that I needed to read more about the issue at hand, and I should've taken more time researching and understanding the issue. Overall, when it come to postulating an opinion over my topic, I really liked the idea that all our knowledge came together in synthesis, sounding really professional too. I regret not becoming an expert on my topic, yet I am excited to see how to team presentation will work. I am excited to understand our argument and examine its dynamics. Generally, I thought the IRR was a good way to prepare us for the rhythm and speed of AP Seminar, as well as getting us ready for the workload of this class. The IRR was a good way to test our initial knowledge, and serves a perfect diagnostic type essay in order to see what people are good at and what people are bad at. Generally, I hope Ms. Martha Laura reads our essays and understands what we all need to work on, allowing us to reach our goals and get a good grade on the AP Seminar exam.
