I expect to learn a lot, improve my public speaking skills and composition skills. I would imagine I will apply the skills I learned during AP Language and Composition. Today I learned what perspectives were. Perspectives are points of views that are arguments that can also be defended and discussed. Things like: I" don't like school" are not perspectvies, at least not in the sense that AP Seminar describes them. Something like: "I think the school system of the United States of Americas does not provide the best opportunities for young students." would be more apropiate to fit the description that the AP Seminar course has for perspectvies. My goal for this course is to pass the AP Exam and not fail the class. I would prefer that I could get at least a 4 on the AP Exam, but because it does't provide me with credits for college, and because I'm a senior and I won't have the opportunity to take AP Research, I don't really care if I pass the exam or not, I'm just going to try to learn as much as possible.
In this class I learned about the real meaning of a perspective. According to the video, which I agreed with, a perspective isn't just giving an opinion about a topic. You have to have an argument and supporting details to make your perspective true. There are tons of perspectives that people have over a topic which generate debate over the idea. I hope to learn a lot of communicative and research skills in this class. I have high hopes in this class since I think it will not only help me get a good university, but also improve my education in my daily life. We live in a world that gets updated every second. It is crucially important to know how to properly search for information in the internet in order to get the best answer possible. Apart from learning how to research, I hope to learn how to read properly. I obviously know how to read, but there is a difference between reading and actually analyzing or understanding what is in front of you. I have the ideology that reading multiple articles and books helps you increase a lot your overall knowledge about topics around the world.
My AP Sem goal for this week is to learn about Lenses and Perspectives. Today we saw that lenses are the different claims to support an argument and that perspectives is the point of view of a specific topic. I think learning this two elements are really important in life because you will know who to support an argument in any situation. AP Seminar will evaluate my speaking and writing abilities and help me support them to increase my english level. I hope that this few days I'm going to be in the class I learn how to create and argument and to support it.
Javier- My hopes and goals for this course are to greatly improve my research and elevate my academic level. I would like to improve my skills in listening to other perspectives in different topics, and being able to debate and discuss about today's problems with my other classmates efficiently in order to improve my knowledge on them as well as my critical thinking skills. In today's class, we learned about perspectives, and how people can have different perspectives on different topics, which could lead to a discussion. A perspective is the point of view of a person, or the way that they see a certain topic that is backed up by an argument that supports the perspective that you are in favor of. People all around the world have different perspectives about different topics and reasons to think the way they do. Different perspectives can make a person more knowledgeable, since they will learn new information about the topic they are discussing, and, if backed with a good argument, change they point of view and way of thinking.
Through the course of this AP Seminar class I wish to develop or improve my research skills as well as the critical thinking ones in order to learn how to gather vital information and analyze data accurately. I aim to progress and significantly improve as a writer, to have determination and gain knowledge in regards to a variety of issues and topics currently circulating our world. AP Seminar has very high standards which I not only hope to reach but exceed. In addition I want to master the process of building an argument with practice and study new valuable lessons everyday. For instance today's lesson emphasized the differences among perspectives and lenses. According to a video which was displayed as the class progressed, a perspective must consist of a reasonable statement and substantial evidence in order to support all claims and compelle the reader of the author’s point of view. Arguments are commonly followed by contradicting perspectives which frequently lead to ongoing discussions regarding the topic.
For this AP Seminar course, I hope to expand my English vocabulary in order to be a better presenter when I explain a certain topic. I also hope that my writing and research skills are strengthened in order to become an outstanding debater. In addition, I expect to exceed my own expectations to prove to myself that I can and will do more. My main goals are to use less words that make me stutter when speaking to a public, and I would also like to learn how to search for specific information in Google in order to not waste time. In addition, I would like to have the ability to identify the best sources of information for my research and be more productive. Another thing I would like to practice is my listening skills and to be an active listener and participant in class. Listening to what others have to say and actually understand their point of view is crucial for any debating skills in general. Last but not least, I expect to enjoy the class as I work hard and learn.
For this course, I expect to improve my critical thinking skills for when I'm reading and analysing a situation. One of my main focuses is to learn how to be observant and pay attention to detail in order to identify the credibility of the source. Another goal I want to achieve in this course is being able to improve my public speaking skills when doing presentations. I hope to be able to speak clearly and without stuttering in order to become a better presentation at any given moment, whether it is for a class or outside of school. I also hope to become a better writer so that whenever I have to write something, it is composed correctly. The skills I will learn in this specific class will really help me when I leave for college since they are about analysing and critical thinking. Today in class we learned that in AP Seminar, a perspective is a point of view that can be backed up by arguments and evidence.
In this ap course, I hope to develop skills that will strengthen my ability to display information to the public. I know that I am not really good at talking in public so I hope to develop new skills to help me with that. I would also hope how to analyze and discuss properly the information in order to explain my point of view on the topic. I also expect my research skills to get better over the time and to know when it is too much information or when I´m going out of topic. In today's class, we saw what are the lenses and perspectives. The perspectives are the points of view sustained by evidence and arguments.
Alejandro A This class is encouraging for me, since its the first AP class I'll take in my high school career. I had to think a lot about wether I was staying or leaving this class. However, now that the school year has started, Im pretty sure I won't regret the decision I took. I usually stuggle with my comprehension on texts that includ ideas and details of experts in the topic. I tend to not concentrate myself and think critically o what Im reading. So that is my first goal; to improve my reading skills. In this class I also expect to learn about language and composition, as well as thinking critically. I strongly believe that these factors will help me throughout my whole life. I today's we learn about perspectives ad lenses. How from one idea, many lenses can be opened and discussed. I learned as well how many people believe perspectives are, and how to identify a correct one. For example, "I enjoy soccer" is something many think is a perspective. Although, it isn't. A perspective could be: "Soccer is the most famous sport since it is the one that has the most followers in the world". I conclusion, I will give my best in the lesson and try to learn as much as I can.
Write a brief summary of each category expectations for IRR (Task #1) rubric. Please write an 8-rows reflection on the IRR (essays) you read (which one was a high, a medium or a low; what do you think about the topics; are they well written?; are the sources reliable and relevant enough?; what about conventions?).
Write a 10-row reflection on your own performance writing the IWA. What did you do well? if you had the opportunity to do it all over again, what would you do different? Identify your major challenges, etc.
